ABHs-4: “End-of-Life” Subject Matter Expert

The Health Care Accreditation Council is a not-for-profit organization based in Jordan, specialized in improving quality and safety in health care facilities, services and programs, and fostering patient-centered care through developing internationally accepted standards, developing and implementing quality management systems, building the capacity of administrators and providers as well as awarding accreditation and monitoring compliance.

The Health Care Accreditation Council has been implementing for the past 4 years a preparation for accreditation program in Al-Bashir hospitals under USAID funding, and is now seeking to hire an “End-of-Life” Subject-Matter-Expert (SME) to design and deliver educational sessions that provide specialized knowledge and skills related to care of End-of-Life patients. 

The subject matter expert will prepare and deliver training and education to healthcare professionals, caregivers, and other individuals working with patients nearing their end. This includes delivering high-quality education and training in end-of-life care to ensure that healthcare professionals and caregivers are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to provide compassionate and effective care to patients who are nearing the end of their lives. The training will be tailored to accommodate the HCAC standards requirements, namely: the process to identify patients approaching or at the end of life, individualized care plan for patients identified at the end of life, the process to ensure the continuity of care for patients at the end of life during the transitions across different healthcare settings. 

The subject matter expert (SME) in the role of a trainer would be responsible for presenting case studies, leading group discussions, offering feedback and assistance to participants, and assessing the efficacy of the training program in fulfilling the learning objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. A bachelor's or master's degree in nursing, social work, psychology, or a related field may be required. A background in palliative care, hospice care, or gerontology can also be valuable.
2. Minimum of  three years’ working Experience in end-of-life care settings, such as hospices, palliative care units, or nursing homes, can be beneficial. Experience in providing training or education to healthcare professionals or other caregivers is recommended.
3. Holding certifications in end-of-life care, such as the Certified Hospice and Palliative Nursing Assistant (CHPNA) or the Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Administrator (CHPCA), can demonstrate expertise and knowledge in the field.
4. Excellent communication and teaching skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly, provide constructive feedback, and engage learners in a supportive and respectful manner.
5. A strong commitment to professionalism and ethical conduct, including adherence to codes of conduct and ethical guidelines for healthcare professionals.
6. Awareness of national and international standards of care for end-of-life patients. 
7. Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying up to date with advances in the field, through participation in conferences, training, and other continuing education opportunities.
