ABHs-5: “Victims of Abuse” Subject-Matter-Expert
The Health Care Accreditation Council is a not-for-profit organization based in Jordan, specialized in improving quality and safety in health care facilities, services and programs, and fostering patient-centered care through developing internationally accepted standards, developing and implementing quality management systems, building the capacity of administrators and providers as well as awarding accreditation and monitoring compliance.
The Health Care Accreditation Council has been implementing for the past 4 years a preparation for accreditation program in Al-Bashir hospitals under USAID funding, and is now seeking to hire “Victims of Abuse” Subject-Matter-Expert (SME) to design and deliver educational sessions that provide specialized knowledge and skills related to the care of “Victims of Abuse” patients.
The scope of work for the “Victim of Abuse” Subject-Matter-Expert will involve designing and delivering a comprehensive curriculum, providing emotional support, maintaining a safe environment, evaluating outcomes, collaborating with other professionals, and staying informed about current issues related to abuse and trauma. The training will be tailored to accommodate the HCAC standards requirements which state that the hospital develops criteria according to applicable national laws and regulations for identifying victims for each of the following: a) Physical assault; b) Domestic abuse; c) Elder neglect or abuse; d) Child neglect or abuse; e) Gender Based Violence (GBV), and the hospital's staff members conduct the assessment of victims of abuse or neglect and take action as required.
The subject matter expert (SME) in the role of a trainer would be responsible for presenting case studies, leading group discussions, offering feedback and assistance to participants, and assessing the efficacy of the training program in fulfilling the learning objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Experience: Applicant should hold a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field, along with relevant work experience of at least three years of experience.
2. Knowledge of abuse and trauma: Applicant should have a strong understanding of the different types of abuse, the impact of abuse on mental health, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based treatments for abuse and trauma.
3. Training facilitation skills: Applicant should have experience in designing and delivering training, including developing curriculum, leading discussions, and facilitating activities.
4. Empathy and compassion: Applicant should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to provide emotional support and resources to individuals who have experienced abuse or trauma.
5. Cultural competence: Applicant should understand cultural and social issues related to abuse and trauma and be able to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
6. Professionalism: Applicant should demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain professional boundaries, as well as adhere to legal and ethical guidelines.
7. Continued learning: Applicant should be committed to staying informed about new research, best practices, and legal and ethical issues related to abuse and trauma and seek out opportunities for continued learning and professional development.
8. Standards awareness: Applicant should be aware of national and international policies and standards related to victims of abuse.
SUGGESTED COURSE TOPICS
1. Understanding Abuse: This module can cover the different types of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse, as well as the signs and symptoms of abuse.
2. Trauma-Informed Care: This module can cover the impact of abuse on mental health, such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression, and the principles of trauma-informed care, including safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment.
3. Building Self-Esteem: This module can cover strategies for building self-esteem and self-worth, such as positive self-talk, setting boundaries, and practicing self-care.
4. Identifying Triggers: This module can cover identifying triggers and coping strategies for managing triggers, such as grounding techniques, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness.
5. Healing and Recovery: This module can cover evidence-based treatments for abuse and trauma, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and expressive arts therapy.
6. Legal and Practical Issues: This module can cover legal and practical issues related to abuse, such as filing restraining orders, seeking medical attention, and accessing resources such as shelters, hotlines, and support groups.
7. Empowerment: This module can cover strategies for empowerment and building resilience, such as setting goals, building a support network, and finding meaning and purpose in life.
